2001 Time Trial Summary

Spring is here, and it is time to get in gear.  The Rapid Wheelmen Time Trials start on Monday May 5 and end on Monday August 25 (no TT on holidays). Sign up in the parking lot of Ada Park (the Grand River lot) [map] from 6:00 to 6:20 PM every Monday evening.

All participants are required to join the Rapid Wheelmen.  There is no fee for the Time Trials.  The first rider will be sent off at 6:31 p.m.  Riders leave in one minute intervals.  The 15 mile down-and-back course is flat to rolling.

The Time Trials is truly an event for participants at any level of fitness.  We welcome people who have never ridden in a race before as well as seasoned athletes.  There is room for everyone.  If you have never raced before or feel that you may be slower, you can request an early start time so that you finish with the others.  The only requirement for a Time Trialist is for you to put forth your very best effort.  You will establish your own base time upon your own fitness level.  You can come back as many times as you like throughout the season and try to improve your personal best time.  Children are welcome but subject to special rules.

In 2005 we will be introducing a new racing class.  We will establish a separate category for VINTAGE CLASS bikes.  To qualify for this class, your bike must be a steel framed 10 or 12 speed without any titanium or carbon fiber components.  The bike must have downtube or stem mounted shift levers.  No aero bars or clipless pedals are permitted.  If you would like to be scored in the vintage class, you must declare yourself in this class at sign up.  We are hoping this will encourage people with older style bikes to participate.

People remark what a warm friendly atmosphere we have at the Time Trials, and you will find lots of encouragement in your quest to improve your speed.  This is one of the best benefits of being a member of the Rapid Wheelmen.  Don't miss out.
