PALM XXVII
What to Take
The Basics
- tent with rain fly
- sleeping bag
- extra clothing
- swimming suit
- rain gear (for riding)
- personal hygiene articles
- towel
- bike in good condition
- tools for normal biking emergencies
- bicycle lock
- water bottle(s)
- sun screen
- one or two pairs of bike shorts
Items Not Thought Of
- Packages of little tissues
- Earplugs
- Clothes pins and thin rope (for drying towels, clothes, etc.)
- Shower cap for covering bike seat at night or when it rains
- Sheet for when it is too hot for the sleeping bag
- Inexpensive thin plastic tarp (like the kind used for painting) for use under the tent
- Shower shoes
- Bug spray
- Plastic bags (baggies) for items inside your duffel bag
For toiletries and personal hygiene items, it is wise not to bring the liquids in their original containers. Use smaller plastic bottles with screw-on caps, not the flip-top or snap-on type. Baggage trucks, and sometimes handlers, are not always kind to duffle bags where glass bottles or squeezable tubes may be packed. Also, try to pack breakable items amongst some soft things, like socks, to cushion them. If you have anything to add to these lists, please send me an email.
