"Be Safe, Be Seen" Campaign Launched by the
Michigan Secretary of State

May 25, 2006
"Be Safe, Be Seen" is a public awareness campaign to reduce accidents involving motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The campaign was launched at the Capitol steps by Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, the LMB, and a coalition of safety advocates on May 23rd, 2006.

SB 1224 Passes Out of the Transportation Committee and is Scheduled for the Senate Floor

On May 9, 2006, the Senate Transportation Committee unanimously approved sending Senate Bill 1224 to the floor for debate. This bill would modify the Michigan Vehicle Code as it relates to bicyclists.

$20 million in Transportation Enhancement grants will help grow Michigan's economy and create safer, more livable communities

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that more than $20 million in federal Transportation Enhancement funding will be awarded to 25 Michigan counties. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is awarding a total of $20,468,400 in Transportation Enhancement funding for 37 projects that will make downtowns and business districts more appealing, create new foot and bike paths, and improve roadside parks for the benefit of motorists and tourists.

LMB Goes to D.C.
The Michigan delegation a strong force at the 2006 National Bike Summit

The LMB sent three representatives to the 2006 National Bike Summit held in Washington D.C. from March 1-3.  Phil Wells, LMB Board Chair attended with fellow board member Dante Lanzetta, and LMB Associate Director John Lindenmayer.  The Michigan delegation also included John Waterman of Program to Educate All Cyclists (PEAC), Tim Potter of the MSU Bike Project, Kristin Hendricks, Executive Director of the Fitness Council of Jackson, and Drew Vankat of the International Mountain Bicycle Association.

Governor Granholm Appoints Kirk Steudle
as New MDOT Director

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today appointed Kirk T. Steudle as director of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Steudle currently serves as chief deputy director of the department and has worked as an MDOT engineer for the last 19 years.

LMB to Sit on the IPACE Advisory Committee

On February 22, the LMB was invited to sit on the IPACE Advisory Committee. IPACE is an acronym for roads in the project area including the I-96 interchange area, Pennsylvania Ave, American Road, Cedar St and Edgewood Blvd, in the southern part of the Lansing.

The City of Lansing is leading the IPACE road improvement study and would like your input. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend a Public information Meeting and Open House. >Find out more

Rich Moeller Selected as
New Executive Director
November 6, 2005
The League of Michigan Bicyclists is pleased to announce the selection of Rich Moeller of Pulaski, PA, as LMB's Executive Director. Rich comes to LMB from a 36-year career as a YMCA administrator and as a tireless and effective promoter of bicycling. Over the past 27 years he has spearheaded the creation of dozens of bicycle organizations, programs and events. His current service as president of the Lawrence County (PA) Cycling Club, and past service as Vice Chair of the Minnesota State Bicycle Advisory Board, are just two items from his vast cycling resume.
