Publications & News

LMB’s quarterly publication, Michigan Bicyclist Magazine, keeps members abreast of legislation, legal trends and current events, and features bicycle touring, commuting, education and safety, physical conditioning, equipment and ride applications.

The League’s annual Michigan Ride Calendar lists Michigan’s invitational tours and single- and multiple-day rides. In 2007 over 140 evnets are listed in this publication.

Our Bike Shorts News Section of our website, MichBike Email List Serve, and our E Updates to members all help bicyclists throughout Michigan keep abreast on important bicycling news and events.

Education

Education plays a key role in improving conditions for bicycling.

LMB is involved with the Michigan Safe Routes to School Program and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership which encourages and enables students to walk and bike to school safely. LMB created the program’s bicycle-education curriculum for the state of Michigan.

LMB also publishes and distributes a bicycling safety handbook called What Every Michigan Bicyclist Must Know – to bike clubs and shops, police departments, libraries, organizations and anyone interested in safe bicycling.

Additionally, LMB promotes Bike to Work Week and other statewide commuting initiatives. The LMB encourages its members and member clubs to support and organize local bike-commuting programs.

LMB regularly takes part in events throughout the state and beyond as an exhibitor promoting Michigan bicycling.

Shoreline Tours

LMB’s Shoreline Bicycle Tours – from weekend family rides to week-long fully supported tours, to a one-day endurance ride across Michigan – show that bicycle touring is a healthy, enjoyable, and inexpensive activity.

In 2007 LMB is hosting five different bicycle tours. West, Sunrise Adventure, Pedal & Paddle, and MUP are on-road, multi-day fully supported camping tours. ODRAM is a one day endurance ride across Michigan.

Shoreline Tour proceeds are a major funding source for LMB’s many programs to make Michigan a bicycle-friendly state.
