I bought my first recumbent, a beautiful Ryan Vanguard sight unseen via the internet in 1997. I love the Ryan so much that I helped build the Ryan Owners Club web site.
I wasn't too serious about riding for several years, but I always liked longer distances--which are made so easy by recumbents.

In 2003, I got more serious and started riding with the local roadies, and thought it would be fun to race in some of the HPRA events, Calvin's Challenge and the National 24 Hour Challenge with my new (to me) Haluzak Hybrid Race. Here I am on the morning of the Waterford, MI 2003 MHPVA event.

This is the stock class hour time trial event at the 2003 Michigan HPV Rally in Waterford.
Here is a shot of the stock race of the Cheddar Cheese Challenge 2003 held in Kenosha, WI. I am the only one not on a lowracer.

Friendly tip: Do not try to sleep overnight in your van parked in the parking lot of the Kenosha Velodrome. You will be awakened and run off by the police around midnight, after they check you for warrants.

In the spring of 2004, I felt the lure of the lowracer and found a used Velokraft VK2 just my size right here in Michigan. This is at the 2004 Warsaw Wringer event (Indiana). The local roadies are starting to notice...
