The Michigan Human Powered Vehicle Association Inc. (MHPVA) is interested in every aspect of human powered vehicles, be they land, air or water-based, and has conducted the Michigan Human Powered Vehicle Rally each year since 1980.

In 1989 the MHPVA hosted the 15th International Human Powered Speed Championships. Approximately 100 land, water, and solar powered vehicles including a human powered helicopter, were attracted to this prestigious event. Entries came from all over the United States, and Canada. One vehicle even came from France to the 15th IHPSC which was held at Michigan International Speedway.
