Newsletter Submissions
Submissions for the MHPVA newsletter can be e-mailed to editor Mike Eliasohn at editor@mhpva.org. If what you have is on paper, mail it to him at 1016 Morrison Ave., Apt. 2; St. Joseph MI 49085-1429.
If you have regular photos, mail those to Mike. If you have digital photos, e-mail those to our Webmaster, Paul Bruneau, at webmaster@mhpva.org, but let Mike know what you sent to Paul.
Mike will mail a paper copy of the electronic newsletter to members who don't have e-mail. So if you are in that category, and somehow read this anyway, write him or call him at (269) 982-4058.

| In the April newsletter, there was an article about miles pedaled by some MHPVA members in 2005. With the 2006 cycling season winding down, a reminder: If you keep track of your mileage, once the year is over, or you've stopped riding outdoors, send me a e-mail (editor@mhpva.org) with your mileage for the year and other information if you want, such as bike(s) ridden, and I'll put it in the January newsletter, if deadlines permit. If not, I'll include it in the next newsletter. Actual miles ridden, please. Indoor miles on a trainer or your bike/trike on rollers don't count. |

If you like oddball mechanical stuff, in addition to HPVs, I (Mike E.) have an extra copy of the July-August issue of The Steam Automobile Bulletin, which I'll mail to the first person who asks (editor@mhpva.org) (Reimbursement of postage would be appreciated.) The Bulletin is the magazine of the Steam Automobile Club of America. The SACA is similar to the Human Powered Vehicle Association in being a small, all volunteer organization, but it somehow manages to publishes six bulletins a year, and the two issues I have are both 40 pages! It's fun reading. And if you want an interesting project, plans and castings to build a steam-powered bicycle are available.
The mystery continues: No one answered my query in the August newletter about who owns the made-in-Australia Tri-Sled front-wheel-drive low racer briefly seen at the Michigan HPV Rally in June. I'd still like to know. Contact Mike E. at editor@mhpva.org

| The October issue of Popular Science had a two-page article about the record set by Canadian Greg Kolodziejzyk in July of 650 miles pedaled in 24 hours. He did it at an oval track in California, circling the approximately one-third of a mile track 1,800 times in his streamliner! There also was a photo of the bike, minus the fairing, on the cover. If you missed the article, and don't want to ride your bike to the library, more information is available at www.adventuresofgreg.com |

Another article worth reading is in the October issue of Wired magazine. It's about Matt Weaver's unsuccessful attempt to set the HPV hour record and win the Dempsey-MacCready Prize at the competition in Arizona in July. Us HPV old-timers will remember when Matt showed up with his first radical HPV at the International Human Powered Speed Championships conducted by the MHPVA at Michigan International Speedway and in Adrian in 1989. |
