April 2006 Newsletter, page 5 (1 2 3 4 5)

THE HOMEBUILT LOW RACER Mike Senyk of Leonard described in the June 2005 newsletter wasn't low enough, so at the February meeting, he showed his latest creation. It's made of 2-1/2-inch diameter 6061 aluminum tubing, all welded. The front wheel is 349 (16-inch); rear, 650c (26 inch). It weighs 22 pounds. The water is carried in the frame (the equivalent of 3 bottles); there's no bottle cages or bladder.

MIKE SPLIT a tube to create the rear dropouts, then welded a flat strip to create the inner surface. Unfortunately, Mike doesn't plan to race his latest creation.

THE LATEST of many changes Don Smith of Sterling Heights has made to his Velokraft is this single blade fork he made.

THERE WERE LOTS of recumbents on display in the hallway of the Francois Xavier Bagnoud Building, brought by Jon Krieft of Ann Arbor Cyclery (Rans, Lightning and Sun) and Crank-It (Greenspeed and KMX tricycles.)
