("Results" continued from page 1)
The race ended on the lap when the leader finished. We divided the competitors into "faster" and "slower" groups, based on their sprint speeds. The faster group raced 20 laps; the slower group, 15 laps. These races did not count in the Michigan HPV Rally composite scores, but instead were part of the new HPVA North American Championships Series.
Urban transportation contest
Organizer Paul Pancella's article about the contest will appear in the next newsletter, some time in (probably) late August, along with some photos from the rally that didn't make it into this issue. There were 11 entries. Here's the top three: 1) Bob Krzewinski, Ypsilanti, Lightning P-38; 2) Joe Brooks/Tess Machlan, Fort Wayne, Ind., homebuilt recumbent tandem; 3) David "Doc" Pearson, Mooresville, Ind., EZ-3 recumbent tricycle.
Overall results
In each event that was included in the composite score, first place in each class scored 1 point; second, 2 points, etc. Those not participating in a given event received last place points plus 1 point.
We computed composite scores by adding the scores for the hour time trial, hill climb, coastdown, kilometer and sprints. The fewer the points, the higher the placing.
If you find scoring errors, please notify Bill Frey at treasurer@mhpva.org.
