Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, 2016
Comfort Inn and Suites - Mt. Pleasant, MI
Register now for Michigan's first Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Conference! Join safety partners and advocates from across the state to learn about efforts to reduce and prevent pedestrian and bicyclist crashes, injuries, and fatalities, both on and off road.
The conference will feature the results of a multi-year study of pedestrian and bicycle crashes in Michigan by researchers at Western Michigan University. Valerian Kwigizile, Ph.D., P.E., and Jun-Seok Oh, Ph.D., PTOE, will present their findings and recommendations for reducing bicyclist and pedestrian fatalities and injuries based on their extensive review of Michigan-specific data. Other sessions will highlight planning and engineering best practices, enhancing pedestrian and bicycle safety at the community level, and hands-on educational activities.
Michigan CyclingSavvy instructors will also be on hand to teach "The truth and techniques of traffic cycling", which will earn credit for the classroom portion of the full course. This workshop will familiarize participants with bicycle-specific laws, traffic dynamics and problem-solving strategies. Students discover that bicycle drivers are equal road users, with the right and ability to control their space.
Additional speaker sessions will be posted soon.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Community transportation planners and engineers, bike and pedestrian advocates, local bike groups, and bike shop owners are among those who will find the information interesting and valuable.
The conference is a collaborative effort of the League of Michigan Bicyclists, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Fitness Foundation, Safe Routes to School, Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, Michigan Department of State, and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.
Confirmed sponsor booths include: OHSP, LMB, MFF, MDOT, SR2S, MTGA, MDOS and CycleSavvy.
