LMB Hiring a Communications Director

The League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) seeks an energetic, well-organized, and detail-oriented person with strong writing skills to fill the role of Communications Director. This is a full-time position based in our Lansing, Michigan headquarters.

This is a unique opportunity for a creative individual with initiative to join the team of a growing statewide membership-based non-profit. The Communications Director will be responsible for expanding LMB's visibility and brand to support our efforts to promote bicycling and the safety of bicyclists on Michigan roadways. This position will be responsible for public relations and a variety of communications including print publications, special promotions, advocacy engagement, email marketing, and social media.

• Develop and manage consistent media, branding, and communication strategies
• Write and edit content for articles, reports, editorials, press releases, newsletters, action alerts, website, social media, and other publications
• Manage LMB's E-newsletter
• Oversee design and production for the Michigan Bicyclist Magazine; coordinate and oversee contributing writers, and create content for magazine
• Assist with a variety of other print production needs
• Produce the Michigan Ride Calendar, including data collection, design, and advertising sales
• Market and grow ridership of LMB Bicycle Tours and promote other LMB events
• Support advocacy campaign efforts including coordinating grassroots support for LMB initiatives
• Respond to media inquiries and work to gain media attention
• Assist in coordinating LMB programs including Micro-Grant Program, $1 Per Rider Program, Photo Contest, and annual awards
• Help to compose and execute direct mail solicitations, including annual and special appeals
• Create and manage content on LMB’s website
• Design compelling print advertisements for various publications
• Manage Google Ad Grants
• Oversee production of annual report
• Staff board committees as appropriate
• Answer inquiries from the public
• Other duties and office responsibilities as needed in small non-profit environment

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or related work experience
• Previous experience at a non-profit organization or relevant business
• Effective working knowledge of social media platforms
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Experience with graphic design (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign), website management (Wordpress, or related CMS), and customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Neon CRM or equivalent – training provided as needed
• Experience with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp
• Experience with online engagement tools such as One Click Politics a plus
• Excellent writing and editing abilities
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Comfortable with public speaking and responding to press inquiries
• Conscientiousness, strong work ethic with attention to detail
• Professional demeanor, sense of humor, and a strong ability to collaborate
• Capacity to solve problems and identify ways to complete tasks more efficiently
• Flexible and able to manage competing priorities in a changing environment
• Self-motivated and self-directed, seeking guidance when appropriate
• Interest in public policy
• Enthusiasm for bicycling

Work under the administrative direction of the LMB Executive Director

• Flexibility to work non-standard hours for occasional evening and weekend events as needed
• Must be available for occasional in-state travel (driver’s license required)

$30,000 - $45,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid time off, health coverage, employer-matched retirement plan, annual bonus opportunities, bicycle commuter incentive, YMCA membership, and paid time off to participate in LMB Tours.
