RoS Classic-Corrected 3.10.15This Wednesday, May 17th, marks the 15th Anniversary of the Ride of Silence. This annual memorial ride grew out of tragic loss of nationally ranked endurance cyclist, Larry Schwartz, who was struck and killed by a passing bus while riding his bicycle in 2003. Since then, the Ride of Silence has grown into a world-wide silent group ride where friends and family gather to honor and grieve fallen cyclists.

Annually during Bike Month, communities across the U.S. plan local Rides of Silence to not only to honor fallen cyclists, but also to raise awareness of cyclists on roadways and remind drivers at the wheel of all the tragic consequences of refusing to recognize and respect their right to ride.

Please visit rideofsilence.org to find your local Ride of Silence. There is no fee to participate. Cyclists are asked to maintain silence and ride no faster than 12 mph. Rides are typically 8 to 12 miles long.

We hope you will join your local Ride of Silence tomorrow and ride to honor the fallen as well as to help raise awareness of bicyclists on the roadways.
