Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Fund

LJM_headshot

To make a donation, please send your check to:

The Capital Region Community Foundation
6035 Executive Drive,
Suite 104
Lansing, MI 48911
Be sure to write Lucinda Means Bicyclists Endowment on the memo line of your check. If you have any questions about the Fund, please contact the LMB office.

The Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Fund was established to honor LMB's first Executive Director who unexpectedly passed away in 2005.  The fund was created to further bicycle advocacy - the mission to which Lucinda so passionately dedicated her life. Lucinda's friends who wish to honor her life and vision are encouraged to contribute in her memory.

Establishing an endowment fund, with proceeds used to support the League of Michigan Bicyclists' mission -- promoting bicycling and the safety of bicyclists on the roadways of Michigan, was a key part of Lucinda's vision for the League. At the discretion of the LMB Board, the Fund may also support other organizations that benefit bicyclists, pedestrians and communities.  Currently a portion of the funds are used annually to support the Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Day.  Learn more about Lucinda and her work as a bicycle advocate by downloading our commemorative issue of the Michigan Bicyclist Magazine.

By establishing Lucinda's Fund under the aegis of the Capital Region Community Foundation, the LMB also enables donors to get up to a 50% credit on their Michigan state tax returns, as well as a federal tax deduction. Because contributions go to the Fund's principal, no more than five percent of which can be spent annually, investment earnings will continue to grow the Fund's principal in perpetuity.

Note: When you, your family, or business makes a gift to the Lucinda Means Advocacy Fund, your dollars go farther through a special 50 percent Michigan Community Foundation Tax Credit.

How it works:

Community Foundation logoCommunity Foundation logoThe law permits taxpayers to reduce their Michigan Income Tax or Single Business Tax liability by a credit of 50 percent of the amount contributed to a community foundation endowment fund.

  • If you contribute $200 or more, your tax credit will be $100 (maximum credit) for an individual filing singly.
  • If you and your spouse contribute &400 or more, your tax credit will be $200 (maximum credit) for a married couple filing jointly.
  • If your business contributes $10,000 or more, your tax credit will be $5,000 (maximum credit) or five percent of tax liability before claiming any credits, whichever is less, for taxpayers filing Michigan single Business Tax returns.
