2010 Michigan Bicycle Summit Roundup

This year's Summit was our most successful in terms of participation. A total of 102 bicyclists took part in the Summit. Following the Keynote by Andy Clark, League of American Bicyclists, there were 12 different workshops throughout the balance of the day. Twelve hardy soles took part in a chilly ride after the event. A special thank you to Peckham, Inc. for hosting us. If you missed the Summit scroll down for more information on the presentations.

A panel discussion on bicycling was held on Friday night before the Summit at the Awards Reception. Andy Clarke, Executive Director - League of American Bicyclists, Chris Phelan, Founder - Ride of Silence and Rich Moeller, Executive Director - LMB made up the panel. An audience of over 50 asked questions ranging from how will England fare in the World Cup without David Beckham to a 3' Passing Law versus a Vulnerable User Law. For many this was the highlight of the weekend as the discussion was frank and the panelist did not always agree with each other - but all had a great time.

Presentations:

Congratulations on a great Bike Summit! I went to the two previous Summits, and they were good, but this one tops them all! - Thomas Baumann, LMB Member

This past weekend in Lansing, at the Michigan Bicycle Summit...I can only summon up one word: WOW!! What a great event put on by Rich Moeller, John Lindenmayer, the LMB Directors and all the volunteers. And the continued support the League of Michigan Bicyclists continues to show for the Ride of Silence. - Mark Hager, MI Ride of Silence Director

The MI Bike Summit yesterday was great...lots of energy and great workshops. Fantastic to hear more about the state of bicycling in the country from Andy Clarke; I think he gave us a better presentation on the state of the national progress than any I recall at the Natl. Bike Summit. - Tim Potter, MSU Bikes

We really enjoyed the MI Bicycle Summit. It was very well organzed and we really enjoyed the networking opportunities and the information sessions. - Kelli Jo & Kara Peltier - Wish-A-Mile

Your state is an impressive leader among bike advocacy, especially for The Ride Of Silence. On ALL accounts, Texas isn't even close to what your state has accomplished or is currently doing. - Chris Phelan, Ride of Silence Founder
