Complete Streets are roadways that are designed and operated so they work for all users of all ages abilities – pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders. There is a growing movement across the country and right here in Michigan to adopt complete streets policies to ensure that transportation planners and engineers consistently design and maintain the entire roadway with all users in mind.
LMB is helping to lead the charge for complete streets in Michigan and is encouraging all Michigan bicyclists to support the effort locally, statewide, and nationally. With help from the Michigan Environmental Council and AARP, LMB launched the Michigan Complete Streets Coalition in 2009. LMB maintains the MichiganCompleteStreets.org website and we encourage you to visit often to learn more and to take action. There you will find a number of resources and actions that you can take to help insure bicyclists are routinely included any time road work is done in Michigan.
