Kind. Loving. Calm. Caring. Friendly. These are all words that can be used to describe our friend Marc Van Otteren, who tragically lost his life doing something he loved. An avid cyclist, Marc was gifted and experienced on the road. Twice he rode the “Sea to Sea” bicycle tour, riding from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean, picking up the nickname “Stretch” along the way. He had a big motor, that matched his big heart. He was naturally friendly and it was always a pleasure to be around him.
When not on his bike, Marc worked at Thornwood Veterinary Clinic where he endeared himself to his co-workers, clients and their pets. His co-workers were like family to him, and he loved what he did.
The tragic loss of Marc’s life brings grief to all that knew him. The Van Otteren family wishes to find some meaning in Marc’s death through the advocacy and educational efforts of the League of Michigan Bicyclists. Their efforts to make the roads safer for all cyclists, and your donation to their organization, can help to prevent future losses such as Marc’s.
